Subject is the subject, rant is as follows. They got rid of them because 'they don't want DK's pigeon-holed into using specific weapons'. 'DK's are intended to tank with 2h dps weapons'.

So, I'd like to mention there are two classes, actually, that could use a 2H tanking mace. Thanks for the kick in the nutsack, Blizz. So hunter's will be able to roll on feral staves to help with their +hit overload, and ferals get jack squat that's actually particularly useful. Combined with the changes to feral armor, I imagine this generation is the last set we'll see with armor on a staff thanks to the same logic as 'We don't want DK's pigeon-holed into using specific weapons', so after this every single feral staff will look like nothing but a generic hunter stat stick. But no, I'm so glad that hunter's can roll on staves now, and for loldps I can roll against 4 other classes for polearms or 2h maces. I'd welcome DK's to the family of having to farm two duplicate sets of an item in order to be able to both tank and dps without having to regem/re-enchant, but, oh, that's right, their weapon enchants are free and every *other* slot they can actually use different gear designed for tanking instead of leftover rogue scraps.

I don't even know why I care, snagged Origin of Nightmares on Monday. Combined with my Defender's Code I actually get to enjoy at least a full week of being damn good at what I do.

FFS, I don't have any problem with them making the game easier overall, but what the hell? Is the goal so that any jackass who rolled fotm feral back in BC can now main tank in whatever crap unsuitable for tanking rogue leather he pulled out of the heroic bargain bin? Yeah, RNG can suck. I ran H UK 30 times before the Sharp-Barbed Belt dropped, then ran it again several more times to get a second that I could gem for dps. That's how it rolls. The MT *should* have to put the effort in to make sure they've got the gear for it, along with the main healers. Fury warriors posing as OT's and the rest of the dps can show up in their best hand-me-down sunday come to raid outfits and play epeen Recount wars all they want, but FFS there should be at least a few spots that require actual effort and sacrifice to pull off. One person gets to be MT at any given time. To pull it off, he should be able to prove that out of at least 24 others, he's best suited for the job. MT is the lynchpin which most fights revolve around, and most of them do it because they want to. They want to be that guy, right there in the thick, holding back death. I don't mind heroics being tankable by any semi-conscious mouthbreathing meatshield that can be propped in front of the mobs. But you know what? Code and Origin were raid loot for a reason. The armor rings were available from heroics, and even if rng is a factor, there were crafted alternatives. It's not like you could pull off raid tanking without putting at least *some* effort into farming tanking specific rings/neck/back. I was somewhat excited by the idea of the changes initially, but without a couple of truly excellent pieces of loot to look forward to (or cherish if you already had them) and with looking at what's really available in terms of leather and not-particularly-important-armor non-block non-defense non-parry tanking offslots, it just turns into a boring smear of minor gear changes. I suppose if I hadn't gotten Origin I'd maybe be more excited at the idea of having a chance at Inevitable Defeat, but especially now that there wont be any tanking 2hers coming there's no way I could bring myself to roll against the DK's, and until we see more of the end game bosses it's an excellent choice for arms or fury as well.
